Beauty & the Beast

My entry for Waterstone's illustration competition - see also my character studies for the Beast, Beauty and the Merchant below. The prize is a contract to illustrate Beauty and the Beast as re-told by Michael Morpurgo... sigh...

I like how you draw trees and bushes. Very pretty and a seemingly effortless style (although in reality this style takes practice and practice to become so natural). It's a great idea to use birds as well: they add something compassionate and fragile, especially because birds can observe, but they can not talk... so in this way they add another dimension to monster's inability to express himself, silenced by his appearance.
Good luck with the contest!
